Children's Ministry Activities

For photos of recent events, see the Children's News page.

Our children stay busy, but all of our activities are part of a larger purpose of supporting our goals and objectives as stated by our Children's Ministry Council. We program our children's ministry each year to help our children develop spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically. We offer events during the year that parents can enjoy with their children, such as:

Each of these events is planned with the whole family in mind, so it is a wonderful celebration of the gift of family that God has given to us!

Special events are also planned each year for our children including Children's Camp, VeggieTales Club, and Vacation Bible School. Children's Camp is an overnight, extended weekend, experience for our children who have completed first grade through sixth grade.

Our Summer Children's Ministry Director plans a wonderful camp experience that is staffed by our older youth, and parent volunteers. Worship times are led by our youth praise band, and Bible Huddles are taught by our youth. Recreation groups stress teamwork and cooperation, as they work to accomplish common goals.

Vacation Bible School is always a wonderful experience, as our children go "on location" each day to experience God's truths expressed in new creative ways!

VeggieTales Club meets once a week during the summer months, and features video visits from Bob and Larry, exciting games, crafts, music, and great stories from God's Word!

If you are looking for a place "where re-creation begins", then come join us at "The Park"!

Sports

Team sports are a wonderful way to teach cooperation, and sacrifice for a common goal. We maintain a two different children's basketball teams. Children in grades K-3 meet on Thursday nights at the church, during the months of January and February, for our Coed Primary League which teaches the fundamental skills, rules, and basics of team play. Our Junior Coed team, grades 3-6, participates in league play as part of the Pilot Mountain Baptist Association. Their season starts in with practices in October, and games are played December through the beginning of March. We have excellent coaching for these leagues, and the self-esteem of the child is always nurtured!

Missions

Missions education at College Park is a high priority! From an early age our children participate in missions emphases through their missions organizations. Mission Friends (coed 4 & 5 year olds), GAs (girls grades 1-6), and RAs (boys grades 1-6), teach our children about the work of our home and foreign missionaries. They also correspond with several of these missionaries throughout the year. The leaders of each of these groups are very creative in helping the children discover new ways that they can help raise money, and awareness, of our special missions offerings during the year. They pack shoe boxes with supplies, bake cookies to sell, and make other visuals to remind our adults to give faithfully. Our children also bring their offerings during Vacation Bible School week to raise money for a "special item" in the home that our church builds for a family each summer, in Kentucky, as a part of Mountain Outreach. Wheelchair compatible ramps and decks, hot water heaters, and auxiliary generators, are several of these special items purchased in the past.
